. Liability may be another reason... kill somebody going too fast and deep pockets like Ford's get sued... even if not at fault... Ford got burned good in court on the Pinto fiasco... it's a waste of time and effort to sue anybody with no money... GM was fined over $100Million for 1 exploding gas tank after juries discovered Ford had decided that $1Million jury decisions for deaths in Pintos were an acceptable risk... cheaper than re-designing/recalling Pintos... which was revealed in Ford documents by a whistleblowing engineer...

. UnSpeedRated tires only good to 92 MPH...

. Canada and USA have different regulations on what vehicles are limited to what speeds...

. My '78 F150 SuperCab 4WD full size 8' bed truck w/ snowplow is limited to 75 MPH by the weak 351M engine... the brakes are even more pathetic...

Well, let me see.........HEAT BUILDUP at speeds over 100 mph would be a "safety" issue, whether you realize it or not.......Perhaps this engine has the ability to far exceed other components of the truck. May i respectfully suggest you direct this question to Ford's CEO, and if you arent satisfied with his answer, get a few friends together and buy a majority stake in the corporation via purchasing 51% of common stock, then you get to design the truck as you would see fit.........LOL

Ever see a NASCAR race where a car gets airborn? Aerodynamics come into play after a certain speed. Hood pops open over 100? Sue Ford for a poorly designed latch. Ever drove one at speed and it felt like it was "floating"? Wonder how far away you were from that airborn thing I was talking about? A truck is as aerodynamic as a brick. That was a consideration NASCAR had before having truck races at Daytona and Talladega. They had to "adjust" the aero for all of them to keep them on the ground.

I wonder if the guys with the late F 150's that are supercharged and run 115+ mph in the 1/4 know about hoods popping open?

i don't know, never had an issue even running in 4x4 at triple digit speeds. bigger truck but same idea though. Thank god for aftermarket tuners to remove the limiter.

85 MPH

I had a 86 f150 w/ the 302 Fuel injection, 3:55 gears and it would only run 85. Mostly due the AOD would not stay in OD and would kick back to 3rd. It sure got to 85 quick thou. My work truck, 85 f250 with the HO 351 would run over 100 all day.

What if that is their only reason for doing so?

I have an 86 F150 4x4 with the 302. It's backed by a n.p. 435 4 speed. And I can easily break into triple digits with it. I just would suggest running it there for extended periods or for very often. As these engines weren't built for that purpose. I should mention it runs the 3.50 gear ratio.

If safety and liability aren't enough of a reason for you then what is?

Sorry Buzz, that was long before cell phone cameras and the like. All I know is it ran very well and would bury the needle.

. An '85 truck had an 85 MPH speedo that would 'bury' easily?

Why a limiter?

Common sense that's not too common anymore

I would have no qualms about it if I knew my equipment was up to it and I didn't have to worry about some doofuss doing some thing stupid in front of me !

I cant run that fast in the quarter but the SC 05 will do at least 120. I don't know how much faster thanks to the spedo. I have the ram air hood but with the inlets blocked off and has never done anything. Now I hit a deer going 80 in a Buick park avenue the hood popped open...It was scarier than hitting the deer.

Get some 10 ply tires and a good custom tune. Get going really fast in your truck...I only had to do it once, didn't care to do it again. Handling was very very sketchy.
