My 1991 explorer 2WD started to shudder and vibrate when it goes into overdrive at about 85KM an hour. I changed spark plugs and wires without any luck. It is fine in 3rd gear--any ideas
Bob
My 97 302 V8 started doing this about 17,000 after the dealer changed the transmission fluid. Had it changed again and they drained the torque converter also this time. 15,000 miles later the 3rd to OD shift is still shudder free.

I had my transmission serviced and Mr Transmission says the transmission is ok. He says the engine is misfiring. Checked compression on all cylinders and they all seem within manufactureres readings but I noticed one spark plug that looked like it did not have heat marks to it The spark is ok with spark to the plug. I suspect that it is not getting any gas from injector. Is there any way to check other than pulling fuel rail off and removing injectors?
Bob
Bob, you can use a mechanic's stethoscope (or a piece of cut-off garden hose), to listen to the injector. If it's working, you'll be able to hear it clicking. Listen to the suspect one, and then listen to the one next to it. You'll hear a difference if one is bad.
Take care when working around an idleing engine.....
Well I broke down and took to a dealer. They put it on diagnostic machine but could find nothing. They put it on Rotunda machine which cleans injectors under high pressure and everything is now alright.
