Anyone know if the spline on the front abs (2 wheel drive truck) needs to be greased. I am replacing the rotor /hubs on the front of my truck & didnt see a lot of grease on the old ones when I took them apart but don't know for sure. Thanks in advance, Bill

Not sure what splines you are referring to. Are you referring to the "tone wheel"? If so, that gets no grease.
Understand about the rotors, but why are you replacing your front hubs? Are the bearings bad? If so, knock out the old ones and replace them. The 2WD truck front bearings are serviceable, and resemble any other RWD front hubs.

Pop
Hey Pop - I wanted to replace the rotors only but on the 2 wd truck they are a one piece affair. I am reusing the bearings as they were in good shape. The "spline" I am asking about is inside the hat assy behind the hub.I am not sure of the technical name for it - Thanks, Bill
Yes, I forgot they are one piece hub/rotors. It's a shame to make them all one-piece, but Ford has been doing it that way on 2WD trucks for at least four decades.
I believe you are referring to the "tone wheel", shown below, which spins very close to the ABS pickup sensor to make the pulses necessary for the ABS computer to so its calculations. There is no grease necessary on the tone wheel.
I'm not a fan of re-using bearings, but if you're real careful with them you might get away with it. Inspect carefully!
Thanks Pop- Did a little research after you first said tone wheel & you are right as usual. I got them all put back together today & bedded in the new pads & happy to say they are stopping true again. I have had some ongoing problems with the fronts as about 2 years ago I paid my mechanic to replace the caliper slide pins with the new ford pins & lo & behold I found out after tearing the front end down - My mechanic used what looked like regular wheel bearing grease on the pins & left the rubber boot off of the one pin. I guess he figured ford just put that in the bag by mistake. Anywhooo- I wont be taking my truck there anymore for maintenance. Just gonna do it myself as long as I am able. Enough rant - All is back to as it should be. Why does ford only use the rubber piece on the one slide pin anyway, still scratching my head on that one. Thanks for the pic Pop - Reps to you my friend - Sorry Pop- I'm in rep jail - I owe you a couple drinks if you ever get over my way.
I may just collect that offer! I'll be in Maryland Heights the evenings of October 25th, 26th, and 27th. Moving down to Gray Summitt on the morning of the 28th!
Aww, who am I kidding? I'm going to have a real full plate the entire time I'm in Missouri this year!
Tell you what: I'll enjoy one for you, you do the same for me, and we'll call it a great time!
Naw, just in the area for the National Springer Spaniel Specialty show at Purina out in Grey Summit.
However, we arrive a couple of days early to see the sights "in and around", and St. Louis has a LOT of those kinds of things. In the past we've gone up in the Arch, toured Grant's Farm, visited your FABULOUS zoo, shopped St. Charles, etc., etc.
