Rear Driveshaft

Here is a simple one for you guys. I have an 89 EB / 302 / AOD with the rear driveshaft having the double cardon joint etc... About a foot or so from the rear end, there is a CV looking boot about 4 inches long and I am curious as to what exactly this is underneath ? I rebuilt this driveshaft and had it balanced about 8 or so years ago and am getting ready to do the same and am curious about the rubber boot. What do I need to do other than replacing all UJoints and getting it balanced ? The last time I rebuilt it, the center socket yoke or whatever the thing is called that is like a large chrome ball was damaged and had to be replaced as well.

OK, I may have it figured out but am not sure. Is the boot actually covering the slip joint ? If so, can I remove it and then lube / oil it and reseal the boot ? If so, with what type grease etc... Driveshafts are not my cup of tea so I need your insight and expertise on this.

Rear Driveshaft

you got it bubba,remove and lube with what ever grease you use for the joints.CAUTION MARK WHERE THEY SEPARATE,SO YOU CAN PUT BACK IN SAME PLACE. Good luck.
