Help With DTC Codes

Hello- My F150 (5.4 Triton) keeps throwing two codes... about every two months I get code 181 and code 1450.

This started when my fuel pump failed. I took it to a shop and they lowered the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump. It threw codes 181 and 1450 about a week after the repair and I took it back. He said that one of the lines was kinked from when he lowered and raised the tank. It went away for about two months and I got the check engine light... Again I got code 181 and 1450. I began looking myself... I found a small intake leak (cracked intake manifold) I replaced the intake manifold cleared the codes and was good for another two months or so. Now the 181 and 1450 codes areback. It seems to happen when I get down to 1/4 tank of gas. Does not happen when I'm running on propane.

Any suggestions? The truck seems to run fine... just annoying!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Dave

Hi Dave.
I hope you don't take any offense at the following because it's meant to show the errors committed in the diagnostic chase.
First the code descriptions must be read and understood by whomever is going to attempt the repairs otherwise is just hoping for a fix.

Both codes involve the EVAP system and gas tank testing the PCM does.
It is very complicated an involved and takes some time under specific conditions.
Clearing codes keeps this repeating over and over such that the codes if not found will take some time to reappear as you are finding.
Code 180/181 is a fuel temp indicator and not really so important as the code 1450.
Code 1450 is an excessive vacuum hold condition in the fuel tank the PCM detects in during the testing cycles.
This indicates some hardware on or around the tank is faulty in operation for some reason.
Find this issue and my bet is the 180/181 goes away with it.
If this all started after the pump install something has been damage connected back incorrectly.
So there you are, narrowed down to the EVAP system and what the issue is.
Hope it helps you out.
Good luck.

Makes Sense!!!

No offense taken... don't know why anyone would take offense. One more question... The truck runs fine. Is this doing any damage to the vehicle or is this an emmissions thing to keep gasoline vapor out of the atmosphere?

I will fix this, I am just wondering how quickly I need to fix it. -Got a trip to take this weekend in the truck.

Thanks!!!

Dave

It's an emissions.
Normally does not affect the motor running although some kinds of faults could.
Good luck.
