Do you think a shorter wheel base truck's drive shaft will work?

it might. but you need to know what length you need. with the truck on the ground measure from pinion yoke to trans output. this will give you a general idea of what you need.

Do you know where I can find the length of drive shafts for different WB and engine combinations?

Google would be the best i could do there.

Should be able to measure it like Tom said an take the measurements and your drive shaft to a shop an have them cut it down.

Other option would be search junkyards for same truck as yours in 250 form with same transmission (auto or 5speed)

As a follow up to this thread here is some more information. I put the axle in about a year ago and the axle is working fine. I had to shorten the driveshaft and get a conversion joint to make the connection. A few other things I had to change were the U-bolts to lager ones I had made at a local semi repair shop. Also, I needed different wheels for the different bolt pattern; I got these with the axle and got some used tires to fit. Last note my truck had a sway bar but it did not fit the new axle (I did not see a change in ride quality). Most everything else was a strait forward swap over.
