I have a 1997 explorer xlt 2 wheel drive 4 door. It's got 189,000 miles on it. It's shacks a lot on idle when put in drive. I've replaced a lot of stuff. I've also lost a lot of power. I can put the gas peddle to the floor and still not get enough power.
The shacking feels like it's about the stall out but it doesn't. Oh and there a rear main leak if that helps. Any help would be nice. Thanks
It sounds like you either have a bad misfire due to the ignition system or a vacuum leak. Is the Check Engine Light (CEL) on and/or have you checked for diagnostic codes? Does the exhaust smell a bit like raw fuel?
It sounds like the first thing to do is give the truck a full tune up and carefully inspect the vacuum lines. If you don't find a bad vacuum line, you might have a leaking intake manifold gasket or PCV elbow which are both pretty common depending on which engine your Explorer has. You don't mention if it's a V-8 or V-6, and if 6 cylinder, which (OHV or SOHC).
