I have had 3 Explorers and loved them all. They are like all vehicles, they have common issues and failures. the 4.6 is a very reliable engine and in my opinion the 5r55 is a good transmission. I have worked on many over the years and I suppose a common issue with it is the overdrive band servo piston shaft wearing the case out. When this happens you will loose second gear and overdrive. There have been a few PCM reflashes to help driveability and shift issues. But still I think a good unit. Other vehicle issues are wheel / hub bearing noises and failures and some had rear ring and pinion noise issues. Still very good vehicles.
