I just bought a 1980 ford shortbox with a rebuilt 1969 351w in it and i'm just wondering if there is any way to tell what the engine came out of. The casting numbers are C90E60 15-B3...
For a short answer I believe a Torino or a Fairlane. Don't think you'll be able to find out which exact one between those.
A longer answer and then some is; the Code (C90E60 15-B3) should actually be spaced like this (C9OE 6015 B 3) and can be broken down like this;
The first letter "C" refers to the decade it was made 1960 to 1969, the "9" is the year in that decade, so 1969 like you said, "0" I think is actually the letter "O" which means it came from the car line of either a Fairlane or Torino. "E" is for the part (Engine), "6015" is the part # and the Letter "B" is for the Engineering Change Level. "A" means original. "B" means at least one engineering change. The "3" at the end I am not sure what that stands for . Maybe someone else will know. I have the same Cast # on my engine except a "4" at the end so it would be intresting to know what that # stands for.
Oh and 351w Blocks from 1969-71 have a higher nickel content, good for high performance applications. Usually these engines are numbered "C9OE" like yours is and "D1AE". Hopefully this helps
