Loose steering

Just curious as to if there is anything in the column that can cause loose steering?

I know the bearings in there likely need replaced, but tie rods, drag links, gear box and intermediate shaft have all been replaced.

Have you checked your universal joint on the steering shaft under the dash?

The rag joint in the steering shaft going to the steering box is a weak point.

I've done the same as Glovemeister...and still have a bit of slop. Don't get me wrong, it is much better, but just not "right".

I know I am going to catch some grief for this.....But

It is a Ford!!

Most all old Fords have very sloppy steering....from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock steering wheel just to keep in your lane....

"It's a Ford" with a RedHead gear box and a real shaft with real u-joints, meaning all the "Fordiness" has been taken out of the picture. It should NOT be loose. Check the u-joints on the new shaft. We put a RedHead and a Flaming River shaft in our RCLB; one u-joint was bad right out of the box. They sent us a new one and it cleared up the looseness.

No track bar if it's the F250 in your sig.

See that is what I thought I really do appreciate that. I've just been kind of shocked with all the attention I've paid to steering and it really hasn't improved. I have been hearing rumblings that Redhead was pressed for time on the last group buy when I bought mine and they were sending out boxes that were not as good as they should have been.

Also good to know on the u-joints. I will verify that. I assume they are checked just like drive line joints?

Its an f350 and I think I've got a front track bar and rear sway bar.

Oh, me? Sorry. Flaming River and Borgeson are the two big aftermarket steering shaft makers. We have a Flaming River.
