single or double flare tool?

Hi,

I don't know a whole lot about flare tools and am wondering if I can get by with a single flare tool or if I need to spend extra cash for a double flare tool. I will primarily be flaring replacement steel transmission and brake lines.

Does the high pressure of the brake lines require a double flare?

Thanks for the help.

Double flare tool is required for all high pressure lines; brakes, hydraulics, power steering, transmission...

Besides, the first part of the double flare operation makes a neat retaining bulge for rubber fuel lines and hoses.

Every kit should have directions. Practice on a scrap piece of tubing a few times b4 you try the real thing.

Don't bother with a cheap kit. The Ridgid #345 worked for me; I tried a Lisle kit first but it couldn't make a usable 3/16" double flare.

Double flare. You don't want to go back and fix it again.
