I have a 92 Ranger with the 4.0 engine. Engine threw a rod so I am replacing it with a 4.0 from a 97. Both are pushrod engines and is a easy mechanical swap. I have already rebuilt the 97 engine and now I read on The Ranger Station forum that the 97 has a different calibration than the earlier engines because of the "Fast Burn" heads. As most know the 92 has OBD1 and the 97 had OBD2. Does anyone know who can recalibrate my OBD1 to the OBD2 calibration. I have posted this on TRS forum but no replies in several days. Thanks to anyone that replies.. Terry
You can't recalibrate an OBD-1 computer and it's not necessary anyway. Put all the '92 intake and accessory parts on the '97 motor along with the '92 engine harness if you removed it from the vehicle and bolt it in. DO NOT attempt to use any wiring that came with the donor motor it's not compatible with the EFI system in your truck.
P.S. If the '97 motor came with a DIS module and coil packs instead of a distributor you have to remove that and install the distributor from your old motor, but be sure to set it up correctly when doing so you can't just stab it in there randomly. Ask for help with this if you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, it's not a difficult concept to understand or execute.
