Spacer Plate

I have a Holley 4bbl 650 on an Edelbrock aluminum intake on my 351M. What will a 1 inch spacer plate do for my engine? What are the pros and cons to having it. And if I am after better fuel mileage, would I be better off without it?

In general, spacers increase plenum volume and increase low-end torque.

I like to think it helps out the shorter runners on the intake. I'd do a two hole spacer that matches the shape of the intake opening. I did on my old truck with a 400 and the same intake. Seemed to help the power out slightly, and leaned out the middle short runner cylinders a little, bringing them closer to the outer cylinders.

It is aluminum, and it is an open spacer. My intake is the older Edelbrock Streetmaster 400. I bought it in very good condition on Ebay. If you are not familiar with that intake, it has an open, single hole bore.

I am a mechanic by trade, but I have been out of the profession for about 12 years, since I got my disability from the military. I am not sure what you mean by, "increase plenum volume", and "increase low-end torque".
