03 6.0 Diesel problems

My 03 starts fine when cold but runs like crap untill it warms up. After it warms up it starts like crap. When it's cold I can barely get the rpms to 2500 in 1-3 gear. Gets up to 3000 rpm in 4-6 then when it warms up things work better but starts hard. Took it to ford and got the egr error code. Replaced it, no help. Heard it could be a high pressure oil leak. Would this cause all the symptoms I've mentioned. thx

sounds almost like a oil or inj problem. oil press controlls the inj.. do you have a oil press gauge?

Hi rockenr,

I'm going to move this down to the 6.0L forum, you should get some more help down there.

Rockenr: Please post the specific code you got. It will help with diagnostics. If you can't remember it then most auto parts stores can and will scan it for free. Yours doesn't sound like a high pressure oil leak to me. Usually an HPO leak won't let it start or be very difficult to start.

Just had the oil cap replaced when I took into a local garage. I'm sure they got the cap out of car quest.

It starts hard when hot but when it's cold it fires right up usually. When hot about 10 seconds and sometimes I have to try it twice to go.

It really does sound like a HPO leak do you have a way to monitor the motor?

It's possible that the oil is leaking out of the filter housing because of an ill fitting filter (non-OEM fiter). They've been known to cause starting issues.
