Towing with the 4.2?
I am planning a motorcycle trip in a couple months.... most of the way will be flat kansas I-70.
I will have a 300 pound trailer, 3 motorcycles on it, 2 motorcycles in the back of the truck. 5 guys on the inside and probably 100 pounds in gear.
Is the too much for a 99 Supercab 4.2l to handle?
thanks,
beau

I think you should be good. I have a 5speed and i towed a 84 v8 camaro on a 3 axle pindle hitch superduty trailer at 65 with no problem. the take off was slow but once up to speed it did great. another time I loaded up a 2 axle trailer with 3 quads and put one in the bed and 3 guys in the cab. did not even know it was there.
Hope this helps
If you are tlaking about dirt bikes
5 dirtbikes X 350 pounds each = 1750 pounds
1 300 pound trailer = 300 pounds
5 guys at an average of 200 each = 1000 pounds
total of 3050 pounds the truck is rated for that in just the bed i believe. i have a 2000 F150 with a 4.2 and it is rated for 3380 in the bed

Towing with the 4.2?
thanks for the reply..... Sounds like the 4.2 will handle it. 131,000 miles and still kickin....
I was actually talking about sportbikes....
But i found out last night that the trailer i had planned on taking will only hold 2 bikes... so 2 in the bed 2 on the trailer. I am not as worried now. It was just that extra 800 pounds from the 5th bike and passenger and gear.
thanks,
beau

Does anyone know where to find the actual specs of the vehicle in regards to tow rating? I know the door jam sticker has a GVWR number, but what about curb weight? Without that information you would have to weigh the entire vehicle to know if you're at the limit. Then there's no info on tow rating in the owners manual either, just GCWR...

In the margin on the right, click on "specs", then locate your particular year and model.
Here is an example:

Thanks for the info! DUH! I'm new to this web-site... found it by accident but I'm learning a lot! WOW! I just learned that my whimpy-a$$ truck is only good for towing 2000lbs... 3300lbs if I go to a 3.55 gear ratio while the automatic is good for 5500lbs! Huge difference! Who would'a thunk?
