Please forgive me posting this in "our" section but I have faith in the wise men who troll this segment - I know that most everyone here has worked on a wide range of trucks so I figure I'd probably get more traction here. first off I am no stranger to the 7.3 Diesel - I have a 97 F350 with the 7.3 and I am in love. Now I am looking at adding a '99 E350 7.3 to my roster and I need to know what you guys know about the engines that came in the vans.
Injectors differences? I've heard that they still use single shots like the 94-97
Any quirks that are van specific?
Any differences in design?
Any differences in tuning? I have heard they are de-tuned from the truck version...
Can a guy get a chip from DP-Tuner or PHP just as easy as the trucks?
Any known issues that I outta look for that are van specific items?
It has 150k on it and the stock trans is still going strong however I know its gotta be about to crap its pants. There is a massive fuel leak down the back of the block but I am guessing that's a fuel bowl seal... been there done that.
I did post this a while back in the van section but got little response, now I've found one and need info quick.
Please feel free to spill your guts, I need more intel on the 7.3 in a van platform before I dive in but time is scarce - this is a hard to find rig and I don't want to miss it! Thanks in advance.[/quote]
The only thing I know about the vans from reading on here is they are a real pain in the rear to work on as far as engine work goes. I don't want to answer your questions not knowing for sure. Sorry I'm not much more help, but it bumps you up top.
That's very true, I couldn't even see the fuel bowl... but than again that's why I want a van with the 7.3 so hopefully I won't have to work on the engine much. I couldn't imagine being a fleet mechanic working on these vans all day.. no thanks
