I know this has been covered before, but I would appreciate some specific advice on the actual installation of the tranny temp gauge sending unit. I've seen references to a "port" on the drivers side of the tranny - that can be used. Also, any guidance on connecting the gauge to the dash lights?
I've ordered an Auto Meter brand gauge that comes with several fittings. I'm wondering if this is something that can be simply screwed in place of the "port" plug? Is it possible to do this without completely draining the tranny? Other recommendations? Again, I'm looking for specific direction on the install of the sending unit and connection to the dash lights.
i just finished installing my gauges last week. the tranny temp sender is a breeze. there is a 1/8" NPT plug in the driver's side of the tranny. take that out, and install the temp sender, hook up the sender wire, and go wash your hands, you're done under the truck. i picked up the dash lights on the back of the headlight switch. i soldered the gauge light wire to the dash light wire (small wire, blue wire with a stripe, if my memory serves me right) that comes out of the plug on the back of the switch. hope this helps.
