I just bought an 86f150 with a 4.9 from my dad. They had the engine rebuilt, adnd threw in a new transmission. Before all this happened, my dad said he could put the truck into 4hi from underneath by just using his fingers on the transfer case lever.
But, I can't even budge the selector lever in the cab. I disconnected the lever underneath from the transfer case (to make sure that the cab lever wasn't locked up) and it still won't budge.
I have tried in drive, park, neutral, reverse, 1, 2, moving forwards, stopped and moving backwards.
Does anybody have an idea as to why the transfer case might lock up? The truck runs fine in 2wd, but without the possibility of putting the truck in 4WD, I'm just hauling around alot of deadweight.
Probably time to have it gone through. I have a '94 F150 4X4 XLT Ext. Cab long bed with 167K. Just replaced the engine and going to have the tranny and transfer case gone through to be safe. I'd recommend the exact same for you. It shouldn't cost a whole lot.
