Question 360 Dipstick Tube Issues

Hey y'all, my dipstick tube sprung a leak at the base recently so I went and bought a nice new chrome one to replace it with since I already had to take it off, but I found that neither the one I took off or the one I bought had an o-ring. Is that my problem? '72 F-250 360. Thanks!

I'v never seen one with a O-ring , It should be a tight fit but some of the new ones are not. I used a little sealer around one that was real loose.

I'v never been lucky enough to get one off without breaking it off the block .... Jim is right it should be a snug fit with no gasket or O ring.. you can use some jb weld around it to ease you're mind

The chrome reproduction ones are the loose fitting ones . Some are to short or long so you need to check that out before using it. I have one in my 302 i had to cut the top of the tube off to make it read correct . It comes up out of the engine when i check oil now so i need to seal it too .

just swedge it a little so it fits tight , you can use a anything with a taper if you don't have a swedge tool .

Well it's already tapered, so that should be ok. And as for the right length, it's only 1/4 inch off the original. Little custom notch in the stick and we're a-ok.
