Wow, in stock form a 460 can lay down two stripes on dry tarmac under a spooled/locked axle with 38" tires? Even when geared to account for the larger tires, that's pretty impressive.
im all for it! you ever see a new 5.4, V10, 6.2 be able to do a dual burnout turning 38" tires? No me either but i see 460 doing it all the time on the weekends pounding through mud holes and truck pulls etc....
Idk Scaler, I have had both and pulled with both and I will take my 5.4 anyday of the week..

For sure. No way a stock 460 will do that. My 5.4 will though. not.
The F150 got the 3v 5.4 in 2004, and the Super Duty did for 2005.
That's odd then, because my buddy Brian has a 2003 F150 with the 3V 5.4L & about 4 months ago had the spark plug issue! He went to change them and 3 stripped out and fell into the engine.
Everyone I have spoke to about it all have told me that they started the 3V in 2003.

This isn't even debatable, it's a fact. The F150 was redesigned for 2004. The 2003 looked like this:
And NEVER received the 3V engines. The 2004 looks completely different and NEVER received a 2V 5.4L engine. The Super Duty was redesigned for 2005 and that's when it got the 3V engines.
Yeah I know which years they changed the body style.
I guess that Dyno Tune Shop wont be visited anymore lol! :P
I just went off of what they had told me and when I spoke to Ford about it they also said 2003. Maybe I just got lucky and got the one person at the Dealership that had no idea what he was talking about! Hehe... More of a reason that I do all of the work on my truck myself lol! Only time I'll take it somewhere is if I am out of town and don't have my tools with me, or if I really don't have the time(which is why it was at the Dyno Tune Shop for Spark Plugs). Just didn't have the time to do it so I figured I'd take it to them! They wont be the first people I call if I have a question though, that's for sure lol!
Oh well, Im just happy I don't have the 3V in my 250. From what I have read & heard, they aren't really that great and are quite frustrating with the spark plug issue so that's why I tell people to be weary of them!
I appreciate the info though, its always good to know the facts about these things incase ya ever have a friend in need of the info!
You probably wont find too many 2002 or Older F250's with the 5.4L for sale! If you do, they are going to have 160+ Miles on them I guarantee you that for sure! In 2003 they switched the 5.4L over to a 3 Valve instead of the 2 Valve like mine(which is a 2002). When they did that though, if you didn't change your spark plugs every 80,000-100,000 miles and let it go to say about 120,000.. The spark plugs would strip off and fall into the Engine Block when replacing them!
But a lot of people hang onto them and Baby them because they are really tough & powerful trucks. The 5.4L isn't a bad motor at all, it's just not to Fuel Friendly! It'll pass everything on the road besides a gas station! lol! Mine has a leveling kit & 35'' BFG A/T's with 4:10 gears and I get about 8-9(City) & 12-13(Hwy).
They put them in all the body styles though. Single Cabs, Ext Cabs, & Crew Cabs. They also put the 5.4L in the F150's & E250's as well. If your looking to buy one though, I wish ya luck finding one! If you do though and it isn't beat to hell, it's most likely going to have a *** ton of miles on her. No one really gets rid of them.. For example... I have a 2002 F250, Ext Cab, 4x4, 5.4L N/A, leveling kit, 35x12 BFG's, Dual Exhaust, 103,770 miles on her... It'd take $14,000-$15,000 at the LEAST to even have me considering selling her! And even then it's no guarantee that I will accept!
If you find one though, you wont be upset!
I just bought my 04 with the 5.4L in October with 106,000 miles. It was a fleet truck and one of the cleanest used trucks I've ever seen for sale.
I just bought an 01 F-350 5.4 with only 121,000 kms (under 76,000 miles). Clean besides a few paint chips and a small dent. All records kept and a 4 figure pricetag, even here in Canada.
She gets her B&W gooseneck hitch installed tomorrow and I pull the trailer home for the first time after
Nice truck, I am sure it will give you years of trouble free miles..
So far the only problem is with the 4R100. It hard shifts from 2-3. Super Duty Scaler says that a transgo kit fixed that problem for him. Other than that, I love it.
2008 crew cab, long bed F350 5.4L.. works fine for me - haul wood, etc. In the summer i plan to use it with my slide in camper resto project (it'll be finished by then, i promise! ) so we will see how it handles that - but the previous owner hauled a 5'er with it and put 100k miles on it, so obviously it did that just fine..
