66' Tunnel Offset?? Help!!
I have a 66' body I put onto a 63' frame. The truck is tubbed and is getting a 520 engine. I went to put the engine in and line everything up when I noticed for the first time the tunnel in the fire wall was offset to the passenger side.
Why is this? Was the original engine in this year truck offset toward the passenger side? And if so why? Does anyone know?

This is just a guess, but it may be to allow for engine offset in a 4x4 application. Maybe somebody with a "factory" 4x4 will chime in. My 64 is like that too.

I noticed the same thing when installing the engine in my 64. I notice that the tunnel lines up with the offset of the differential. So I just lined up the trans with the rear yoke to give me clearance for the brake booster and steering shaft.
