frame/engine questions

I have an 84 f150, with a bad frame. I've been looking for a 4x4 frame and axles to swap.
Was talking to a friend yesterday, and he's looking for all the parts to swap in an EFI 5.0.
Currently he has no harness in his truck, just the bare minimum wiring to run a carbed 302, and lights, so needs every part that EFI uses,Engine, fuel pump, computer, harness etc.

All I can find out about chassis is 'redesigned in 1980', then 'ground up change in 1997', but haven't been able to find out if that means the frames are identical from 1980 to 1997. ( I'm already running into issues with my truck being a short box standard cab, everyone loves the long box extended cabs up here!)

So, does anyone know what years 4x4 f150 or f250 came with an EFI 5.0 or EFI windsor, on a frame that would fit an 84 cab without a lot of modification?

Edited because my "I" key s retarded!

Wow no replies, I was just browsing your posts to see what you put 160K a year on, certainly not this truck.

I got an answer for you but you really should have asked this in the 80-86 truck section not general section.

The quick answer is very very few to the point that it's almost impossible. The issue is you have a regular cab short box 4wd. Those only came in F150s and are quite rare. Sure any 80-96(not 97) frame will technically work, the body and bed will bolt right on. Some details will be an issue with 87-96 frames. Bumper brackets, etc. That said the odds of finding a regular cab short box 4wd frame in good enough condition to use, but bad enough condition to be affordable enough to part out is near impossible.

Had to look to see where 160,000 miles a year came from!

Thanks for the answer! Have started to think that I'll have to cut down a long box, or just weld up what I have. I've only seen a couple short box, and they were in about the same shape.

Cutting or welding frames is illegal some places.
I know you see it lots, but lots of places it's illegal, and un-insurable.

Just so you know.
