buddy of mine just traded in his 24' ragen bumper pull toy hauler for a 34' extreme 5th wheel.
one of the common compalints from him and me when tieing down the quads and bikes was the lack of well placed tie downs and trying to decide where the heck to put them.
well his new trailer i was thinking of buying him 50 or 60 linear feet of e track and a hand full of clip in rings as a gift/contribution to "the trailer"
one part that stumped us was, what would be a good way to secure it? butt load of screws fill all the holes? screws and fill only so many holes? through bolt it with washers under trailer? (better idea i think) of course will check for anything under the floor BEFORE DRILLING OR SCREWING.
also with e track we can build a rack for the front tires of the dirt bikes to strap them in good and tight!
so i figured i would toss the question out here and see what y'all had.
Thing that concerns me is water. You will want to ensure it is water proof and seal around all the holes.
does this hauler have an underbelly skin that you can take off to gain access to the underside? If so that will certainly help with seeing what is there and protection from water and stuff.
not sure, helped him pick it up last night we got back to his house late so we just parked it. need to get under it and look at whats involved for a axle flip anyways.
Hey. I'm a heavy duty truck and trailer mechanic. I regularly install and remove e track. Its amazing stuff for yhe shipping industry. Even when installed with half the fasteners or incorrectly it will hold back freight very well. From reading your story sounded like you want to mount the e track on the floor. We mount it on the walls. We either use 1/4 inch pull type pop rivets but we also use self tapping screws. I would be happy to see rivets, self tapping screws or 1/4 inch bolts! It all depends on design and thickness of your floor. The bolts and nuts through Your cross members. Me personally I'm not as comfortable with the selftapping screws (small ones ) but they do sure work! Are you hauling just cars or quads too?

I have 2 rows of e-track on my toy trailer garage floor. I purchased several rings to use when securing items. I did however, buy 2 e-track brackets made for using 2x dimensional lumber, # 59149. See below.
I used a 2x10, almost the full width of the trailer, putting grooves in the 2x, allowing it to sit right down on the floor on its edge. I then put 6 eye hooks across the top edge to secure straps for the dirt bikes. I also added 3 u-brackets across the face to lock the front wheels in place with the middle u-bracket extending back an additional 8" to keep the handlebars from hitting each other.
I've included a picture of the e-track bracket below.
I don't have my rail close by to include here. I will take a picture and include later.
r2millers, cool ya everything is just an idea, a lot of carry over ideas from his last trailer that never got done might get done on this one. his trailer is 14' to the first cabinet and we figured run track along the walls and then maybe do some better flush mounts down the middle where you would walk when trailer is unloaded. then design from there as sometimes nothing fits is the same spot twice!
blueeyedfordguy, e track is awesome! i got a strip mounted to the face of my tool box in my pickup. and yes mounted to the floor, the walls in these trailers are nothing like the ones in a semi trailer. have to look in there but most likely the floor is 3/4" plywood and running it parallel to the walls. no cars just dirt bikes and quads, and at the most ever if he purchased one a golf cart or side by side. but 99% of the time it will be dirt bikes and quads.
MX727, as far as the axle flip goes im a welder and welding on perches is no big task and 6 perches shouldent cost more then 30 dollars, and that Dexter kit recommended you weld them on anyways! also i have 6 shocks to contend with which will need some consideration. hardest part of the flip is just doing it! times 3 haha triple axle trailer.
gonna be a whole weekend project to flip the axles but I can see it will be well worth it in the end.
They make these things so darn close to the ground!
im guessing a day to do the perches and flip. tinkering with the shocks may be another day of work but who knows, might be a good time to try and replace the shocks with longer ones and call it good.
need to get a measurement to the highest point first, see where the overall height stands. want to try and stay away from 13'6" as best as we can, cause i know its getting close.

I know this conversation went from e-track to flipping axles in a hurry.
I'm not sure the need unless traveling where low clearance is an issue, such as Pismo Beach out here.
Based on your comments above, attaching e-track can be done effectively without all this effort.
Am I missing something here?
sorry, i think in one of my posts Etrack was a mod that never got done to his last trailer just like an axle flip, which in his last trailer was not needed asap. i belive where i first mentioned it i was stating while i am under the trailer checking out where the Etrack will be mounted ill scope out the axle flip that we need to do.
his new 5th wheel though will get Etrack along with a needed axle flip, as he cannot lower the pin box anymore (lifted truck) and we go to pismo beach (need to keep bed rail to gooseneck clearance!) and do get the trailers out in the dunes a little bit. the semi blown in kiddy tracks can be a real scare when the drain lines blast through the mini dunes.
Wow 2 inch e track? Never even seen it! We have 5 inch at work that I mount and what not. That 2 inch e track will he a great add on to any toy hauler !! Its like having infinite d rings in the floor. Haven't been around 5th wheel and gooseneck style "pick up" towed trailers . I appoligize most of my experience is with heavy duty trucks and trailers
was not aware of larger e track? that size i have seen everywhere from toy haulers to race car trailers to long haul semis.....
My apologies . I was measuring the full width which is 5 inch. The e track equipment have clips that are 2 inch. We use e track with 2 inch ratchet straps that have a capacity of 1500 pounds (don't know why they cost 35$ a piece when they are only 12 feet long). Talked to a truck driver that installed E track and verticle track in his toy hauler. He purchased it from the scrap yard where we take our equipment. It was 10 $ a load bar!!!! Talk about cheap. He hauls quads and puts the front wheels of the quads on load bars. He straps lots of stuff to the walls! Really cool. Sounds like it made it easy for trips to the dunes. He used nothing but self tapping/self drilling screws to mount everything. There are e track clips with round rings for 5$ a piece at harbor freight
This is what I use. Beast Racks. Needs a couple of D-rings, but they have to be in the right place. So an E-track with moveable D-rings would be great with this. I put it in a cargo trailer with no under-floor obstructions, so I just put in a couple of permanent D-rings. Beast Racks - The Leading Makers of Customizable Rack Systems
