is it worth it??

LQQking for some opinions....
I came across a 2005 f250 4x4 supercab long bed, XL trim 130k miles, 5.4L engine 5 speed trans. Needs an engine due to the last owner never changing the oil. $4000.00 sale price.

Does that seem like a good deal?

well that is a bit vague. What shape is the rest of the truck in? Anybody who neglects the engine sure as **** neglected every other piece of that truck. I an guarantee you are running on original fluids everywhere. If it is SUPER clean and you can put a motor into it yourself, than maybe. If not, I would walk.

I'm thinking it's high. Needing a motor definitely puts it below "rough" condition, subtracting the cost of an engine I'd think 2000-2200 tops. My opinion of course.

Also, just because the motor is blown doesn't mean you subract 6500 dollars from its value. You can sell the drive train and body for more than 2k.

body and paint are in really good shape, only 1 dent in passenger rear door. no rust. just zero maintenance.
I think 3k is the MOST I would pay but is not any kind of deal.

with that kind of neglect you are looking at 3,400 bucks including fluids and misc. crap just to get the motor into it. Than you have another 300-400 in replacing all the fluids in the truck. Even than, with the neglect that transmission is prob. about to give up the ghost.

edit: Also tack on new u-joints, carrier bearing, ball joints, tie rods, shocks, brakes, etc etc etc....Most people say that good maintenance goes a long way. Well ****ty maint. goes even further...just in the wrong direction.

It all depends on your use and angle PSD. I fairly regularly will flip work trucks and, like I said, my OPINION is I wouldnt spend more than 2k on it. Not many people have the time or patience to sell off a broken drivetrain or a body without a motor and no, I didn't just deduct the 6500 number you came up with. It's an XL and they're hard sells, at least here. Spotty or non-existant maintenance history, low option vehicle, 1st year 3 valve 5.4 the list goes on. To the OP, my OPINION is a couple grand.

I misread it as an XLT. I wasn't implying you just lopped off 6.5 grand. Was merely stating I doubt he could get it for 2k. I also flip a fair share of autos and I wouldn't pay anywhere near that amount if I wanted to make a profit. If it was in fantastic condition and I were going to turn it into a personal vehicle though, I would be willing to shade up a bit on purchase price. We're on the same page

cool, no prob. If it were at least an XLT or better yet, Lariat no problem on another 500 or so. Note that my personal work truck is an XL!!! I tear them up and I wouldn't be able to sleep if I put a King Ranch through what I do.
