I'm not 100% sure if they will interchange, but I do know they have different part numbers. They are called the rear extension housing if you want to do some searching on it. I will post a link to a place I have bought one from.
thanks for the link, Bill. i've been curious on prices of ZF parts for a while and no one else i've seen actually posts their prices.
i have a complete zf5 4x4 tranny in pieces - but with a broken rear 'extension' housing. i was looking for a shifter boot on CL and came across an ad for it for $100. i couldnt turn it down and the guy sold it for $50 in the end. so, i got my shift boot and 4 other buckets of parts, along with the case. the tail-housing ripped right off the end of the tranny where it narrows down to the cylinder, but otherwise, everything else looks to be in good shape. at $176 to replacement, maybe i will put it all back together someday.
