I did the swap. I went from the 76 grill to the 79.
I still have to adjust the hood and everything but as it sits right now it opens amazingly! Pull the lever and "pop" the hook actually works like it's suppose to.
I'm not sure what's going to be the best way to adjust it because the little square nuts on the inside of the fenders fell off So i've just been using regular nuts, washers and bolts for the hinges.
Any suggestions on the best way to align the hood? I was going to pull the latch off while I worked on the alignment so the hood didn't get stuck.
Yes , remove that latch first you don't want it to get caught up there , ask me how i know. As much as yours is out i would start by loosening the three bolts that go up though the hinges and slide it back a little . Then i would loosen the other three long bolts on each side and push the back down a little. Then just switching from one set of bolts to the other until you get it there. Keep checking the front clearance as you go .
If it's a case of adjusting after having the fenders off then i get the back end of the hood inline with the cowling , 1/8" to 1/4 "aprox . Then i shift the fenders left of right in front to fit the hood . If clearance is good next to the grill then i instal the latch and readjust it. Everybody has their own way but it ends up with just moving body parts around until you get what you are after.
Oh I also found out that the radiator from a 76 f250 does not fit the core support. So right now it's sorta rigged to work, but I gotta figure out what to do because I don't wanna spend $250 on a new radiator when my works just fine.
