Thumbs up 79 Bronco

I just got a 79 Bronco. It has the 400 in it and I love the power. It has the typical Ford cancer but I will get to that in time. It is going to be my project truck and I wanted to know what years interchange with the 79. I need to get new front seats and some other interior parts. It also has a 6 inch skymaster lift with 36 nch tires. Someone help with ideas to make it get better fuel mileage, right knnow i get about 10 mpg, is that all I can expect. thanks for the help.

10 is not bad for a 400 with a lift and big tires.

I am getting between 8-10 with an 85 model that has a 351, C6, and 32" tires. I have given it a full tune up also including rebuilding the carb. No overdrive is the biggest downfall I think. You are doing better than expected.

I have a 93 with the 351w, E40D, and 31" tires. Even with overdrive I am lucky to get 11mpg on the freeway, so it sounds to me like you are either doing very well for yourself, or mine is doing more poorly than it should.

to help out with the gas mileage i would put on some nice exhaust and headers but of course you dont want to be breating in through a stray so a 4bbl and intake would help out and if you drive it alot it would pay for itself in a few years
