A ZF 5 speed will have to come off of a F250 or bigger with a 351w. I don't know if they used them behind the smaller motors in the bigger trucks. It will bolt up to your motor, but I don't know if the tranny is the same length as the Mazda tranny. If it isn't, you will need a driveshaft (or 2 if it's 4wd).

I have also seen a couple 5.0 F250's with ZF 5's and one 300 in an F350 with a ZF 5 in the local yards. You basically need to look in 87'-97' F250's and F350's that are manuals and they will have the ZF 5.

the zf5 came behind 300's as well, but its kind of a moot point. any small block zf5 will work with your engine.

the mazda trans is actually a very reliable piece. the fact that you have had recurring problems is more likely to be a problem with the rebuilder. and 1200 is pretty steep for such a simple trans rebuild. . .what problems are you having anyway?

rather than rebuilding one that you have, you could find one in the jy for pennies.

if you don't tow anything, have huge tires, or do a lot of 4wheeling, the zf5 is not the best option. the mazda trans is street friendly with its gearing. the zf5 is not so much, its basically a 3 spd with overdrive (you wont use 1st gear often on takeoff) while the mazda trans is a 4 spd with overdrive. I wouldn't trade the mazda for zf5 in 300 truck that was my daily drive, and you wont be blowing up the mazda trans with a 300 that doesn't have a turbo hanging off the side of it

You'll love the ZF5 on the trails and with a heavy load. First gear is MUCH lower then it is in the Mazda trans.

While I have heard that the ZF5 is the same length as the M5OD, I haven't been able to personally verify this claim. What I can do is run out and measure my trans for you
