Hey guys, I recently purchased Equus code reader to assist wih troubleshooting. I ran my first scan today both KOEO and KOER. Everything checked out except for one code in the continuous memory. Code 41 C. According to the manual it's HO2S sensor signal out of range/always lean or no HO2S switching detected.
Currently it's being run with an offroad pipe in place of the catalytic converter. The air tubes are not currently plumbed into the exhaust. Would this cause this condition? If so does it actually effect the operation of the engine or is it more of an advisory type code? Sometimes my truck will stumble a little bit under load I was kind of wondering if it could be a fuel delivery issue. I'm going to get a fuel pressure gauge next. Thanks for any insight
I also meant to add that the previous owner had some pinging issues clear back at around 60k miles. They had dialed the timing back a little. After replacing the the distributor and a complete tuneup I set it at 11*'with no issue. I'm now running 12*.
How old is the O2 sensor? Need to make sure there aren't any exhaust leaks between the exhaust manifolds and the sensor. Also, check all vacuum lines. I had the old plastic lines break and that would always seem to give code 41.
O2 sensor is pretty old, quite possibly original. That's a good tip about possible exhaust leaks. I'll look into that. Do you know if that code causes the engine to run any differently? Thanks for the info
PCM sees lean condition, it sends info to injectors to dump more fuel. Usually broken, brittle vac lines, exhaust leaks, damaged/worn out sensor, corroded/damaged O2 wiring harness are numerous causes. O2 sensor usually has 3 year life span, after that its just a matter if time due to the harsh condition it is exposed to. It is sales tax free, or it should be. It's a federally mandated Emissions component.
Thanks timbersteel, I'll be looking for vacuum leaks and o2 sensor. It must not change the fuel too much because my mileage is still around 12 which for a 460 seems decent from what I've seen
