Question for the guru's. In my long attempt to make my 74 F250 390/C6 run well I have never solved something and I don't know if it is a problem. Whenever I drop in the distributor and set the timing I notice that the vacumme canister on the distributor is not facing straight ahead like every other 390 I have ever seen. Does this matter?
It does not matter as long as you have room to adjust the timing without it running into something. You can lift the distributor and rotate it one or two splines if you need to as long as the rotor stays fixed relative to the distributor when you drop it back in.

X2
I like to clock the dizzy so the V/A canister is at 6 o'clock, this way if you wanna monkey around with the timing there's ample room to retard/advance without interference.
