Does anybody know what Ford did in 99 to go from 235 HP to 260 on the 5.4L? Does anybody know whether the transfere case was changed that same year as well?

Thanks

Transfer case was changed, they removed the 2HI function from it. It turned into a A4WD system only.
I think thet they changed the heads on the 99 to bump the horsepower. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if this is the only change, but they switched to a different intake manifold in 99. The new one is made of a composite material, I believe, and of course, it will not retrofit onto the older motor. The ports will misalign.

Yeah - they put the "PI" heads on the motors. If you check through the passenger side front wheelwell, you can see a number stamped on the head. Look for "PI". This means you've got the more powerful motor.
