stupid wheel question

I have searched, and I think I have the answer. But need confirmation,
I have a 2004 F-350.
I have 17" after market wheels and tires on it that I hate.
I have the chance to get some factory 17" from a 2008, They will fit without any issue, correct.
Thanks
Doug

No, not directly.

The 2005+ trucks have front coil springs instead of leaf springs, so the wheels have a different offset.

It can be done, but you need to use a spacer. This video does a good job of explaining it, although he has an Excursion instead of a Super Duty (close enough).

There are no stupid questions, I've used them all up.
I'm no expert on the subject, but I believe all Superduties have the same 8X170 bolt pattern.
(I'd wait until that is verified before spending money.)

No, but I can come up with some pretty stupid answers every now and again.

(Took care of the double post for you)

ok, He says 2006 is the magic year, after checking they are off of a 2005 so I should be good without spacers. correct?

If all that is going to happen is some rubbing at full turn I can live with that.
Right now they rub because they are too big and too wide.

Yes, 2005 was the change year, not 2006.

I know about offset. Still don't know if positive or negative means you need a spacer and the other means your wheel will stick out.

After seeing this and with the level of trust I have in wheel and tires shop selling me something safe... I'll stick to factory wheels for my winter gear. Just got to find some cheap used wheels. Then again it could be cheaper to just have the tires mounted on the same wheels summer and winter. That's probably something like 60$*2 per year vs maybe 500$ to find 4 good wheels and I still have to pay 60$ to mount the tires once.

2 sets of wheels/tires is the only way to go.

OK. Why?

Let's say mounting and rebalancing cost me 100$ per change. 200$ per year. A good set of used wheel would be 500$ if I am lucky.

After 3 years I'm down 600$ either way(500$+ mounting/balancing once) and the tires are going to be due for change.

So the upside only happens after the 4th year and this is assuming cheap 500$ wheels. Also TPMS sensors would add to that.

Normal 800$ wheels + maybe 200$ TPMS.... chances are I'll trade in the truck before that ever becomes a good money decision.

Now maybe I am missing something else? Slight risk of scratching the wheels on each tire mount? I can live with that on a truck.

I always have 2 complete sets of tires/rims for all my vehicles except my RV. For my snowflake rated winter tires, I picked up a set of used OEM rims for my '01 for $400. The chrome on steel look. The guy threw in the complete set of lug nuts plus the 4 plastic chrome centre pieces since he upgraded to a custom, larger tire size. I use my OEM aluminum rims for my new Michelin MS/2 three season tires. That way the salt etc. doesn't ruin them up here in the great white north.

With the new summer set, I had them mounted and balanced for free on the alum rims. The shop mounted and balanced the snows on the steel/chrome rims for $50.

Personally I find it convenient to change out my own tires any time I want vs. relying on going into the tire shop and having them do a "rim" changeover. I feel there is also less wear and tear on the tire beads by having separate rims. I also have to justify my investment in compressors, air tools and heavy duty lifts and jack stands to SWMBO so doing it myself helps here too.

If you are patient, I believe you can always find a good deal on just about anything you are looking for. ~ Bugjr ~

ok, I do not want 2 sets. I want a set of normal tires in a 17". I can not afford 1500-2K for tires and wheels. So factory takeoff are the option I am looking at.
Even the tire stores do not seem to agree. Can not, Vs only issue is when turning sharp giving a little spring contact.

Have you asked your local FORD dealer your question? ~ Bugjr ~
