My dealer suggested replacing the metal valve stems on the outside aluminum rims with high pressure rubber stems to prevent corrosion. Should I be concerned? I often carry a 4000lb truck camper. The metal valve stems seem to react with the aluminum rims . Are HP rubber stems safe?
I noticed that when I had replaced my tires @ 60k the replaced my valve stems w/ rubber ones. I am currently @ 125k and have had no issues with them. On my dually I run 65 to 70 lbs in the rears and have 7500 lbs on the rear axel every day.
Thanks for the information. I also checked with a few tire shops and most of them felt the corrosion issue will occur around the valve stem due to clear coat failure. Either type of valve stem is fine. Liquid calcium and magnesium chloride applications are destroying our trucks!
