headers / gt40 head removal

96 302
have some headmen longtube headers i want to install
it looks like one of the bolts on the drivers side is broken off
also the passenger side looks very hard to get to the bolts
all are super rusty

i could goto parts galore and pull some gt40 heads for $36!
how much work is it to pull the heads off?
any idea what size sockets / special tools i will need to bring to the junkyard?

3/8-16x1" long bolts. The locking bolts are well worth the money. Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets are a good investment too.

my headers are about 3/4 as thick as the stock manifolds, will hole clearance be an issue?

I'm guessing your header flanges are the standard 3/8 thick, so no, you won't have any issues.

No problem! I wish I had sprung for the locking bolts when I installed my shorty headers. I'll be changing the regular bolts out soon.

no problems here.. just make sure theyre tightened down good on original firing and after 1 heat cycle retighten.. and you should be good from there..

The PO of my truck did the same exact thing, to three bolt holes. What worked for me, was to heat the ez out cherry red, then strike it with a punch. I eventually broke it enough to get the pieces out, then carfully drilled out the old bolt, and retapped. I did have one hole though, that I had to use a heli coil in. It's worth a shot...
