I have a 91 crew cab duelly 7.3. Bought it new in 91. I lost the engine after 530,000 mi. Cavatation(I didnt know about it). No problems with it till CAVATATION!! Anyway I bought a 89 f-250 complete truck. Took my engine out and replaced with its engine, had 89,000 mi on it. Change some of the parts on mine to the the 89 engine. Would you believe mine was in better shape. But the 89 engine runs hot only after you run it over 2000 rpm? for a while anything over 60 mph. Flushed radiator and engine put my cluch fan on it (that helped). But still getting hot. Any Suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks

egt - exaust gas temp.
A pyrometer will have probe that is welded or clamped to the exhaust pipe about 6 inches below the turbo or manifold. It will have a gauge inside the cab. Sounds like to me like you dont have one. I would suggest getting one, it might save your engine.
What parts did you "change" from one engine to the other. Sounds like the timing is wrong or the injection pump is turned up. When you run high speeds and high rpm's is there a lot of black smoke from the exhaust? If there is lots of black smoke ...1. injection pump is turned up, 2. intake filter is plugged up, 3. exhaust system is plugged.
Was the engine from the 89 ever turbo charged? and they did nt turn the pump back to oem specs?
Hope this helps.
In the back of my mind I was wondering about the timing. But there is no smoke at any speed that I notice. But now I think I will have it reset. Thanks!!
As for as the thermostat and sensor. once it gets hot temperature dosn't change till I get back under 2000 rpm.THe she startes back toward normal. The gauge when hot N O R M A (L)
