you said everything electrical... though I don't have a hunch yet I'll ask some more questions:
spark plugs - did ya replace those?
6v original, 12v conversion, positive ground, negative ground?
original style i take it from the word generator in there but I'll ask to be sure.
recheck connections... sounds like coil wire came loose, dizzy ground came loose, etc.
A flathead is no different than any other engine, all you can do is work your way thru the systems and see where you aren't getting spark, fuel, or compression.
Was going through this just 2 weeks ago with a rebuilt flat head that hadn't run in a few years. Spark at the points but not at the plugs. Checked all the wires, everything was tight. PO thought coil, so he replaced it. Still no spark. Turns out the points had slipped adjustment. As soon as he re-gapped, the old girl coughed and proceeded to run. For a few seconds. Just long enough to burn up the fuel dumped into the carb. So it has progressed to a fuel delivery problem.
As Ross and others say, just walk through each system and make sure each one is doing what it should. Even with weak compression or bad timing, it should still pop and sputter. You're missing at least one of the three.
ok guys ,sorry I couldnt get back eariler ,but I was out of town, well I put a little gas in my carb and it started right up ,I dont understand it ,I did the same thing earlier ,and all it did was turn over and wouldnt start, anyway ,maybe it is fixed ,I hope it dont start acting like a women and do something different everytime ! thanks again Bill
Sounds like you had flooded it. If it does the same thing again hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and crank it for a few seconds to see if that will clear the intake so it will start.
