Rotor wobble

Let's play "What's Wrong With My Truck, the Video Edition"

2002 F-250 4x4 5.4. In the video the rotor is snugged up with lug nuts. Wobble wobble wobble.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Brand new rotor. Wife shooting vid, under duress.

When I bolt the wheel on and spin it I can see the wobble there, too. I seriously doubt it's the rotor. I don't think there's rotor anywhere that out of spec.

My dad taught me a long time ago by always asking me ,"What's the last thing you touched". If it wasn't like that before it MUST be the rotor. Put your old one back on and see what happens...

The rotor was changed because the last one was rubbing and making noise. I don't believe I got two bad rotors in a row. Plus, when the wheel is bolted on and spun free, it wobbles, too.

Wheel bearing? i don't know. That's why I'm asking.

Is there any play in the hub? Grab the rotor, can you wiggle it at all?

With a "wobble" like that the original rotor would have done the same and there would have been no way in h*ll you would have been able to hold onto the the steering wheel driving or braking....was this the case?

How clean is the hub underneath that new rotor? Is the rotor sitting perfectly flush on the hub?

If everything is spotless and everything is sitting perfect, based on the video, i would say you have a bent hub [havent seen a rotor that bad even if it is "white box"]....pretty hard to do but you could check it by removing the rotor and mounting the wheel with a couple nuts; if it is the hub it will wobble the same as the rotor.

Why? It's a common mistake to assume that new parts are always good parts. My record is 5 bad Master Cylinders in a row before I got a good one. I honestly thought they were just giving me the same parts over and over.

Always save the receipts and NEVER assume a part that is new is a good part.

But, in this case, I don't think the rotor is the issue. Something internal is hosed up.

Didn't feel anything. Heard it when braking. I'll see how it is today, but I feel pretty sure it's the same.

The truck came from central Illinois, and I'm having some rust problems with it. Perfectly flush? Maybe not, but I think it's closer than the run out I'm seeing.

I'll take it apart again and try spinning the wheel with the rotor off.

If it's a bent hub, can I drive it without risking life and limb (until I can get a replacement - maybe a week or so)?

If it's a bent hub,,,i wouldnt recommend driving it as it will be nearly imposible to safely navigate and stop.

Cant clearly see the hub....If the hub is wobbling WITH the rotor its most likely the hub. I can barely see the hub in the vid but it looks like its wobbling too. Shoot a sideways vid and get the hub in the picture too.
Agreed dont drive it. If the trucks new to you Ill bet the prev owner hit a curb, pot hole or the truck got hit there. Cant believe you are keeping it straight on the road if it is in fact a bent hub. No brake pedal vibe either? Do a vid with the old rotor too.

Solved. Thanks for the help. This forum has always been a valuable source of information to me.

This one took a couple of idiots (in real life, not on the forum) to screw up.

I had a problem that I chased down to a front rotor with some runout. I went to Autozone to get a new rotor. They sold me a rear rotor (idiot number 1). It went on, looked ok to me (idiot number 2), but continued to display runout. So, I assumed the problem was something else.

As it turns out, with the correct non-damaged rotor on the front, it works pretty well.

Now that you mention it, that is a pretty big hat for a front rotor...we all should have caught that one.

LOL!
