Well after a short temper tantrum i split my transfer case wide open. Rather not go into full detail but it involved the winch not working and me jerking the hell out of a tree.
Anyways, i have the dana 21 single speed now, do i go back with this one or do i upgrade? No problems out of it other than this. My truck is a 76 with a 360 and a granny 4 speed.
Whats yalls thoughts and opinions? And anyone have a clue what this is about to cost me
I personally would swap out for a new process 205 2 speed transfer case. They are just about bullet proof. They have a cast iron case and all gear internals. And they are a very commonly used tcase. They were used in everything from the fullsize bronco to the 250 and maybe the 350 until 79 that I know of. However I could be wrong and they may have been used until 81, not sure though. I do know it was replaced with the n.p. 235 tcase. Which has an aluminum case and is chain driven.
Split my dana 21 years ago, swaped in a 205. Youll need a diffrent tranny as the Np 435 came with diffrent housings and rear output shaft on the 21 vs 205. Best bet would be to find a married 435/205. You need to swap crossmember or like I did modify yours. replace driveshafts and while your at it twinstickit. You could do this for under a grand pretty easy with some help from your freinds or just find another 21 for like under hundred.
I would recommend going with the 205 tcase. Reliable, easy to find, cheap. If you've got a divorced tcase, swapping in shouldn't be too bad. Just need to check the short shaft in between the transmission and case
