Bad pump shouldn't through a code, however I think there is a "fuel pump monitor" on the PCM pinout so I could be wrong.

Fuel issues won't throw a CEL.

In case I forgot to mention it before, I think you have a fuel delivery issue.

Has anyone mentioned the cam angle sensor?
Before I would go on a trip.. I have an extra one in the glove box and a new fuel bowl drain valve
the sensor is not expensive...but only get one at the ford dealer no aftermarket...or International dealer if they will sell you one..some do not like to sell parts for Powerstroke.. If you do ask for a 444 International engine.

when they start going bad your engine will do all kinds of crazy things

If you plan on keeping your truck get the AE software you will get the Ford enhancement package...no more guessing what is wrong...I enjoy mine
good luck

Finally figured out the fuel pump was not pumping correctly, so I ordered a cheap one thru am-autoparts.com and it fired right up. Normally I would go back with all original Ford parts, but I decided to sell my truck, so I couldn't pass up a $37.50 fuel pump that was delivered to my door! Thanks again to you all for your help!

Nice call. Reps if I could....

FYI, I have seen a CEL thrown due to fuel supply issues...it was an extreme case though. It took three cycles of the key to fill the bowl. The ICP was around 3k (at idle) and duty cycle down around 4 or 5%....weirdest thing I have ever saw on a scan tool. As far as I know, the guy I was helping dropped the tank, found his problem and his truck has been fine ever since.

fuel pump

i read this tread and to let everyone know, my 1999 f350 was missing the other day when i drove it to work, there was a leak somewhere near the fuel filter, so i changed the filter and drain valve, that did not fix the problem, it was still bogging down around 50 mph, i open the fuel filter compartment and removed the new filter again and put my finger where the fuel comes in and it look felt like low pressure to me, i decided to replace the fuel pump, it was running and working but with low pressure. i never put a guage on it to check, i replaced the fuel pump with a new one from advance auto parts today, went for a test drive and i could tell the difference when i cranked it up. it is now again running good. also i open the drain valve and there was a steady flow of fuel comming out while it was running. i was first thinking i had major problems. i bought the airtex brand that advance sells for 135.00 with a one year warranty.

shop rags in the tank

The dealership left 2 shop rags in my tank, broke off my pickup screen, i found this by installing a fuel pressure guage under the engine. i went back to the dealership and they bought me a new sending unit , i done even know if they ever took off my tank at all, i took off the bed to get to the tank, i know now that it is clean and no shop rags in my tank. this dealer ship has cost me a lot of money, i will never take it to another one. any comments of this. the truck seems to be running much better now.

I'd make them reimburse you for all of the labor and down time. That should be considered negligence.
