I am alright with buying from them so far, service was good for my first order, quick delivery, parts look good. I just bought several things from them that I could have bought cheaper elsewhere, but I thought by the time I pay freight on a different order it will probably end up the same overall anyway.
Finally getting parts to sort out a few things in my cab, let them drag for a while, it's good to get into it, but it's amazing how it all adds up, especially when you start poring over their catalogue and think that might be nice, and that, oh and maybe one of those.....
Jeremy, I have seen articles about the bear claw latches, without going too deeply into it and I am sure I have read that the 56 had good latches, better than earlier trucks. Are the bear claw latches that much better than the original 56 ones, worth the money and trouble to fit?
I guess I should do a bit more serious looking into this.
Don't know about '56. Are they star wheel like '55s? Our passenger door popped open on a turn with my son, Dylan, in the seat. Fortunately, he had taken to heart my advice to not lean on the door because it just might pop open. Won't happen again, damnit.
BK, You have been around here for a while now, so I would assume you would have seen that Mid Fifty is beloved around here, and I think your rant is misdirected. Mid Fifty is a parts DISTRIBUTOR (and a very good one!) NOT a parts MANUFACTURER. They did not make your switch, someone else, likely an overseas company, made it. Sy and her helpers do try to find the VERY best parts available, and sometimes the manufacturers change the part or the prime contractor starts using a new company without making their distributors aware of the fact. It would be unrealistic to think that MF or any other distributor could possibly test every part they sell, so if there is a general problem they don't find out about it until customer(s) start letting them know about it. The correct thing to do would have been to give Sy a call and let her know about your experience rather than coming on here and bad mouthing them without giving them a chance to rectify the problem. Your likely unwarranted rant has already damaged their very fine reputation in the mind of at least one person. The fact you say you had to dremmel something out gives me pause as to where the issue actually started.
"The fact you say you had to drermmel something out gives me pause as to where the issue actually started. " the instuctions state that the hole will need to be dremeled out. I've already stated two or three times that perhaps I was hasty. It was late and I was very disappointed. I'm usually more circumspect but after waiting 8 months to get this truck going..... fact remains the key mechanism fell apart. I have replaced it with NOS as I should have done originally, and have moved on. maybe you should too.
***** happens and DODO occurs. Mid Fifty probably has a 99.9% good rating- they try to do their best. Maybe it was a bad part. Maybe it wasn't handled by all parties very well.
You may want to still talk to them -they are good people and I wouldn't be surprised if they give you some type of a credit or another order. At least they would know they may have a supplier problem. Besides like I said before the tootsie rolls are good! Have fun Dave S
I recently had an experience with them that I wasn't completely happy about, but I wasn't really upset either...
I ordered rear spring mounts by mistake (meant to order the y hangers, not the frame mounts). When I realized my mistake I gave them a call, and they were happy to exchange them for the correct part. I understood and was fine with paying the return shipping and the shipping for the Y hangers, I was the one that ordered the wrong part. The parts were the same price, so no problem there. However, they only sent me one Y hanger. I had to pay the shipping on the 2nd Y hanger also. It's only an extra $13, so I'm not really that upset, and it definitely won't stop me from buying from them again. Top quality parts, great prices, and great service... It's going to take a lot more than $13 to make me stop using them!
