Just got a 1995 ford f250 auto with 7.3 powerstroke with 251k miles on but needs nothing and runs awesome, lot of new parts on engine.
Has boost gauge, exhaust temp and tranny temp. Engine is stock.
Several people told me that I should put a 2.2K resistor in it for little more power and better fuel economy so there's 1k, 2.2K, 3k, 5.6k, and 10k
Don't know what the difference less k gets more power?
Is it bad for powerstroke? Will stall it at idle? Worth putting one in? Does a job with it in? Will hurt tranny if I added one in?
It got 4" pipe to turbo with big filter see in pic. And new 4" exhaust system but stock 4" muffler.
I'm not sure where you would put that resistor, but in general it's not a good idea to fool the computer. Usually things like this resistor trick result in worse mileage or harder starts. I have a feeling this resistor goes into a temperature sensor somewhere to trick the EEC into thinking the ambient air temperature is cooler than it really is, so it dumps more fuel into the engine.
Nice truck by the way!
You might have better luck in the PowerStroke forum with this question:
welcome the world of diesels!
as dixie said, the only thing the resister does is fool the computer into thinking the incoming air charge is colder than it really is, feeding the engine more fuel.
this is not recommended, because it screws up other things.
come on down to the 94-97 powerstroke forum, and the guys there will help you waste money on that rig making it even nicer than it already is!!
Thanks guys I thought so it might screw it up so yea I won't get one. I'm happy with stock but I like black smoke lol but this one doesn't shoot any black smoke.
black smoke is unburnt fuel, or pouring money out the exhaust pipe.
Really? I didn't know that I thought white smoke is unburned?
True Save money for not to pour the money out exhaust but I like do whenever I want to for fun.
white smoke on a cold engine is unburnt fuel too. on a hot engine black smoke is from over fueling the engine.
on my 02, in the 99% of the time use 80hp tune, i do not blow any smoke except for a very lite haze at wide open throttle from a stop for a second.
if i kick it to 140 race tune, it will dump a big black cloud until i hit around 2,000 rpm, then it clears up.
my 88 with its mechanical injector pump it is for a very slight haze at wide open throttle from a stop.
so what about TS Performance 6 Position Chip
More Power and Better Fuel Economy / Mileage
for tranny and it said The transmission will be tuned also for firmer shifts, torque converter will lock-up sooner, and added line pressure for the added HP over stock.
I prolly will do on 75 hp more for fuel economy.
what u guy think? do i need to get special injectors?
Just a FYI. 65hp is the MOST you will see from a chip. The 90cc injectors limit you to that in the OBS. The Superdutys have 140cc injectors so they will see closer to the claimed 140hp increase. Dont expect to see any real gains with a chip. if you see 1mpg better I would be surprised
Personally I would go with a more well known tuner like Swamps, Beans, DP Tuner,Power Hungry Performance, Gearhead, Tony Wildman, etc
