Yep they are a great improvement. I put one on my dads 01 Harley, then he traded it for a 02 King so I swapped it. Sounds great on WOT. The filter is in same location as the stock one, but it's exposed. Go to K&N's site for some pics.

Are you talking about the K&N FIPK? That is not a cold air intake kit. It pulls warm engine air. Check out the specs/results at http://performanceunlimited.com/projectmpg/ That should shed some light on the debate between filters/ kits/oem.

I planned on making my own, because I can't see paying about $250.00 bucks for something I can make for about a $100.00 and have about the samething. I'm trying to figure out where to run the filter, since mine is a 4x4.

I've owned my new f-150 of about one month,and have been researching cold air intakes and just intake systems.the only true cold air intake that i've been able to find is the iceman system.try this web sight Ice-Man.com for more info.
