Oh what fun with POs!!!!
NEED YOUR HELP ON HIS ONE
As some of you may know I have been cleaning up my Panels frame but today I ran across this.
This is my motor crossmember (not original)
and there is also a transmission crossmember (not original) didn't take a picture of it but it's not as heavy duty as the motor crossmember.
Since the PO HACKED the old crossmember, I guess to install the C4 Is it really doing anything structurally? I'd think not and if not can I remove it leaving the trans and motor crossmembers to take its place??
I'm not as familiar with the '56 panel as I am with the '53 F100.
On the '53, the cross member that supports the rear of the engine (at the bell housing) also provides radial support to the frame to prevent the weight of the cab from twisting it. I've seen people remove it for an engine swap, and not heard any complaints, but I've always wondered if there was something going on they don't know about.
The engine cross member on my 54 Pickup had been cut out. And a 302/FMX installed. Homemade, cobbled up engine and transmission mounts.
Having said that, the next cross brace towards the rear, under the cab, had cracked. I assume that it cracked due to the extra stress put on it from the engine cross member being cut out.
I repaired the cracked brace.
Then I reinstalled the engine and transmission using pre-made engine and trans mounts from D.C. Both mounts are cross member style.
