00 f250, 230k miles and never any problems. No CEL's running perfect, or was. Suggestions?
Started up this morning just fine, drove 45 minutes to my first job all highway, and felt or saw no problems anywhere. Got to my first job and completed it in about an hour and get bavk in the truck to go to the second and it cranks slow. Same sub division is the second job, get there and kill it and it won't start again, just slow cranking then clicking. About 45 minutes have gone by and it cranks slow but starts. Gotta finish this job and hopefully it will restart the going to the parts store to have the batteries, and starter tested. If thats not it, what else?
Pull your jumper cables form behind the back seat (the ones you keep for when someone 'else' needs a 'jump') and get a jump. Go to the 'batt' store and get batts... Alt.... tested.
If its the alternator, the batteries may show dead or close to... I would get a charge on them to see if they hold or not before throwing money at batteries that might just not have been able to charge due to bad alternator
This was me last month. Replaced both batteries and a new alternator. Last week the new alternator went bad and had to replace it again. Thank goodness for warrenties. Plus I love where it is located in the 7.3. I replaced it in their parking lot and it was easy. Driving to O'reilly was interesting. I didnt have enough juice for the guages to work. Weird driving and not knowing how fast your going. Good luck man. Hope you get it fixed.

Reason: Cant type/spell the greatest.
Funny how that "lifetime" stuff HAS to have a lifetime guarantee.
Otherwise the word would get around quickly that they're rebuilt so poorly that nobody would ever buy that crap.
Rebuilding your own by the local reputable rebuilder is the only decent, trouble-free way to go.
I know, I know, when you just HAVE to press on, regardless, (got no time for quality), your options are then limited. Too bad it causes you to usually "get stung".
Yea it could have been the alt only, but in a bind being stuck I just did both. Batteries were 4 years old anyways, and paid with the company credit card so ill just charge it off at the end of the year.
Probably a good plan. My batteries got weak at 4 years and had to change 'em. Slow cranking as well. But my alt was still good... so far anyway. I'd like to find a rebuilder in the Seattle area. Havent found one yet...
i also just bought 2 batteries ($270) from kragen. hope you didn't buy them optima batteries. those things are junk. i have yet to have one last longer than 3 years-they cant even run my daughters power wheels these days.

I find it difficult to think there isn't one, ,however, and you just haven't found it.
Though he doesn't check in here as much as he once did, Dan (FTE's Kwikkordead) owns a repair shop (sorry, Audi's only) in suburban Seattle. He would likely know of a good one, though he uses Bosch rebuilt parts, I believe.
Gotta go get this all put together now. The alternator is a 110 amprage, is this right? They asked me which one I had and I didnt know, and these were about the only ones that showed up. Then to start on the a/c since thats doing crap now.
