jack a side up on the front and grab the top of the tire and try to wiggle it, if theres play you have ball joint issues, pull whole tire in and out to check for wheel bearing issues, take tire off and calipers to inspect pads for any grooves, also look at the rotors for deep grooves, check slide pins while your under there
Can anyone explain why when I hit my breaks or hit certain bumps I can hear a crunching sound under the truck?
For me the clue here is that you hear the noise on certain bumps as well.
I am thinking spring tip isolators. They can break apart, crumble and fall out over time.
When I purchased my truck from a private party he gave me new sway bar bushings from NAPA and told me there was a small vibration. I have been driving this truck and as every one knows the 7.3 gives off plenty of vibration and I never noticed what he was talking about.
After a month of driving the truck I noticed a crunch when I braked or hit pumps. My first post in this thread was asking questions about it and Christof13t gave me a list to work with and I mentioned that I was given these bushings and he agreed that might solve it.
I simply sent this picture to my Buddy and he told me have it and replace those. You can notice the gap between the bushing and the bar.
I covered the bolts in liquid wrench and gave it about ten minutes to set in and then it took me about 20 more minutes to get those off and replace them and then went for a quick test drive. NO MORE CRUNCH!
Sorry about all the rust.... But then again my truck is 13 years old ;P
