Problem started yesterday ABS light came on out of the blue on the interstate. About an hour later started shifting hard from 1st to 2nd, noticed speedometer lagging. 2000 Ranger Trailhead 3.0 AT. Any and all suggestions welcome.
I own a 2000 Ford F350, 4x4 w/ powerstroke diesel, auto trans.
Similar occurrence - ABS light lit up and is still on, overdrive light on transmission shifter blinked off and on for about two minutes and then went back to normal, speedometer does not actuate until I reach about 20 MPH??????????? Have not taken it in for service yet..have check fuses......OK, have checked brake fluid level.......OK. I don't have a clue, anyone out there with similar problems and a solution? Please advise....Thank you
FOUND THAT MY PROBLEM IS THE REAR DIFF SPEED/ABS SENSOR.
IT CONTROLS ABS SYSTE, SPEEDOMETER, AND TRANS SHIFT POINTS. I THINK PART OF MY CAUSE WAS PULLING A LOAD AND DIFF WAS LOW ON FLUID AND CAUSED SOME MINOR FOAMING/HEAT IN DIFF. WENT TO FORD PAYED $15.90 FOR ABS/SPEED SESOR AND 10 MINUTES OF MY TIME. ONLY TOOL I NEEDED WAS 3/8 WRENCH. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks James. I will research your fix. Where is the sensor located exactly? Did you need to top off you differential fluid to prevent a similar occurrence? Thanks again for your help.
I have had the same problem with my sensor. It triggered transmission problems, abs light, and speedometer fluctuations. Muddy Bronco recommended pulling the sensor on top of the rear differential and wiping off any excess metal flakes from the magnetized sensor and trying that before you buy a new one. It seemed to help me but I find myself continuing to wipe off the sensor often, so I have resigned myself to buy a new one.
SENSOR IS ON TOP OF DIFF. I PULLED THE FILL AND DRAIN AND FLUSHED DIFF AND REFILLED WITH ALL NEW SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBE AND HAVEN'T HAD PROBLEM IN 6500 MILES.
Justin I'm new to your site and wish to have a long standing realationship. I plan to build a radical stroker motor for my 2000 Trail Head and just have fun. I have 30 years experience in motor yachts and more than that in car building. I still own my first car and truck, a 1966 HiPo coupe Mustang K block car with A/C, and a 1971 F100 with 428SCJ and sun gear overdrive. I have had great fun on this website and I hope I can further assist.
No problem (about the caps)....I wish I still owned my first truck (totalled last may)....it's in the gallery. Kid ran a red light and murdered it. But I'm back and better then ever with this one, my 2nd (I'm 19). See ya around the boards!
