I have scoured the threads and suppliers web sites with no luck. Can anyone point me in the direction of an assembly diagram for the bed and wood slats for a 48-50 F1. Or even some detailed photos of the process would help.
If you do an advanced search by going to "search this forum" towards the top of this page , then click advanced search , then for key words put bed wood, then enter it will take you to all or a lot of the old posts on this subject. You could also try other combinations like wood bed etc. And also one you get to the threads, you will see a grey line that has net, images ,clik on the image side until you end up with lots of pictures youll like. Sorry that's all I can do to help at the moment. Im sure sommone with pics or diagrams at at the ready will chime in. I have to go for tonight, good luck.
Thanks for the replies. The bed has the wood and metal strips. Haven't found just the right photo or diagram but I'm getting closer to at least understanding. I'm trying to figure how the cross members, slats, bed sides, etc all go together. I did contact the vendor I purchased from hoping they'd have something. They don't but they offered to have someone talk me through it. Not exactly what I was looking for. I'll keep browsing. There has to be a diagram somewhere.
Cheers
Hey Idler,
How's it going over there? Here are some pics of our '50 bed - might just help with motivation - not really a step by step. We did a lot of ad hoc under bed repairs so it's not stock. We replaced a very deteriorated metal over wood bed with a wood kit.
Good luck over there in New Jersey. Your truck looks great!
Thanks for the photos Ben. That looks great. I don't ever expect mine to look like that but I'm hoping to have it on the road again soon to at least enjoy.
Do you guys in Texas even use Mesquite in truck beds?
Hi again, I just found this picture in a search, it's not my truck but if you look close there are 4 larger bolts that hold the whole assembly down, going thru the larger xmembers. Then all the smaller bolts mostly just go thru the metal strips and nut together underneath, with some of them lining up with xmembers, in the front for sure and maybe another one or two. I cant remember and cant get under my truck right now to take pics, but I will tomorrow if you need me to. There is an end piece to go across the exposed slots in the rear that you can get from any supplier. On mine I came out 1/2" gap wich I covered with a piece of flat SS. Ill check to see if you need pics from under my truck tomorrow PM.
Thanks for the photos and replies. They helped! Yes, the truck looks or did look a lot like the Sanford and Son truck. A whole lot.
We started mocking up the bed yesterday. There were a few false starts but it all seemed to fall into place. Feeling pretty good about it now. I'm going to try to get the wood stained and prepped to be ready to finish putting it together this weekend. There are a few dangling questions about how the tail gate and tail lights mount and are they using the same holes but I think we've figured that out from the collection of photos I've managed to compile over the past few years. We'll see.
The truck has the original 6 cylinder in it. I changed it to 12v a couple of years ago but I expect it to remain as is. It'll be fine for tooling around town.
Love the truck PanelMan - and the colors. Very nice. I always like the panel trucks though I'm never sure what I'd do with one. I guess I don't know what I'm going to do with mine either for that matter aside from running to get milk and taking leaves to the dump.
