What size tires are you guys running on stock 20" rims? Im looking to upsize a bit from stock when the truck gets in before I put any miles on I want to try and swap at a local tire shop. I will be doing at minimum a 2.5" level kit but probably do a 1" rear also (unsure on the 3.5"). Anyway I don't want donut looking tires but still cant exceed 7' 3" to the cab lights
I went with the Nitto Terra Grappler 295/60/20 about 2,000 miles ago. To be completely honest, I like the look but I'm a little sorry that I didn't stick with the 275/65/20. The 295 is supposed to be about 0.40" taller than the stock Michelins, but they seem to be about the same height. 601 revs per mile vs 610 for the 275. My speedometer is just about dead on with the larger tire.
My problem with the larger tire so far is fuel economy. I've never experienced so much difference in fuel economy on a diesel truck before as I have with just a tire switch this time. Under full load with the toyhauler, I don't see any difference at all, but around town I have lost nearly 2 mpg and it looks like about 1 mpg on the highway. Those numbers are with the tires inflated to 80 psi. Drop down to 65 psi and it gets worse.
295 is the maximum that will work on the stock rims. With or without a leveling kit, the left front tire barely rubs the control arm at full turn. The right side seems to be fine, but anything wider than 295 is going to seriously rub the left side. Many others have echoed the same experience.
2 MPG is what I lost with the Nitto Terra Grapplers.
They are heavy tires. I have 295/70/18.
Nothing else was modified, just a tire change.
I haven't switched out the OEM tires yet but was doing some research and asking around. Came down to two choices. The Terra Grapplers or the new Toyo All Terrain 2 tires. Nothing against the Terra Grapplers but when I read you can try out the Toyo for 60 days first, and the fact they they are promoting an 80 000 mile tread warranty, and up to 40% more mileage than competitor tires, and the videos I saw..... that will be my next tire. I figure you get what you pay for.
Heavier tires, bigger circumference tires change the mileage you will get. I am staying with the 34 inch range as that is good enough for my needs and looks. Check out the links.

That looks like a good tire, but you must be reading different literature than I am. The Toyo website says the trial period is 45 days or 500 miles. It also states that the warranty for LT tires is 50,000 miles. The 40% more mileage claim means that they are comparing themselves to a 35,000 mile tire. They do appear to be about 7.5% lighter than the Terra Grappler (at least in my size) which will make a difference in fuel economy.
It's an 80,000 km warranty (~50,000 miles), which is probably where that confusion set in, just attention to detail. No idea where the 60 day thing came from.

It is a 30 day trial period, not 60 days for the tires. And it is 80,000 kms. which is about 50,000 miles. I guess in Canada we get ripped off if it is 50 000 miles in the U.S. Ripped off by 400 kms I think.
I did some checking and the OEM tires on my truck, Michelin AT2 have a 100,000 kms limited warranty. The aftermarket look way better though.

I'm running Hankook tires in sig with a 2.5 front and 1" rear lift. I didn't have any huge difference in MPG around .5 for me. I like the look of the Hankook. I was originally waiting on the Toyo2 tires but they were on backorder for close to 3 months when I was looking. So far I am very happy with my decision.
well no dealer will credit anything for factory tires even new. So I may end up running the stock Michelins in the winter on my 20:" wheels and getting the Toyos on my summer 18s. I have BFG A/T on them now they are nice but with BFG tires they have a stiff sidewall and make the tire appear smaller than other brands. For example 2 identical sized tires Good years will look and actually be slightly larger inflated than the BFG
