Going to be building a sub box to fit behind my seats in a single cab this weekend. Before I draw up my plans, I need to know how much depth I can go with if I've got my seat all the way back. I'm going to be running a 10" shallow mount.
i do believe mine is somewhere around 4 inches, its been a while since i measured it though. i can sit with the seat ahead so i had room to install regular depth subs, i went with two alpine type e's with an audio planet amp with internal fan. i custom built my own sealed box and ended up being spot on for the recomended space requirements for the subs. a word to the wise, i talked with an audio expert and he said that with shallow mounts, 12s sound like 10s, 10s sound like 8s and 8s sound like 6s. also if your amp doesnt have a fan i would add one. mine does have one but i think am going to add another one from an desktop computer, you can never have too much fan. also for more accurate measurements measure your truck just to make sure, dont take my measurements for granted as i may be off slightly, and also leave as much room between the seat and the sub or the floor and the sub or the back and the sub as you can as it will make it sound better, too close and they subs make a muffled sounding bass, which sounds like crap
Its hard to measure behind the seat when its back. I don't have a true shallow mount, its a 10" type e. I've run these in the past and liked them so I'm doing it again. I was hoping for at least 4" of internal depth giving me 5.5" of overall box depth. My truck is a 5 speed and I'm long legged so its not all the way back but it's close to it and I can't adjust too much.
i wouldnt, just make it yourself then you know its done right and those boxes say they are made of mdf, buy one and you will find out its particle board not mdf. particle board sounds like crap and can absorb moisture in the air. made mine in less than a day, also you can measure the bottom of the seat with it folded ahead, than just mount your sub in the bottom of the box, or jimmy the tape measure in there, it can be challenging but i did it. good choice with the type e, love mine

I loved the pair I ran in my first mustang. I guess I can get in there and measure tonight. Hopefully I leave enough room for my tackle box and a shotgun back there.
well i made mine with an amp rack on it, i made it so a gun would fit (and they do) no problem. tackle box is a definite no but if you are only running one, or making a smaller box than it should fit

Only running one for now and I can toss the tackle box in the boat if I need to.
I just remembered something when I built my box I made the bottom 7 inches w ide and the sub magnet almost hit the box with my type e tens so that Is something to keep in mind
