I talked to the guy at the local tune-up place we have used in the past and he said he'd charge us like anybody else...$90 an hour and we'd probably be looking at 2-3 hours. If it is something IN the computer then we would end up going to Ford for that in the end. He agreed that if the crankshaft sensor was messed up the vehicle would not start.
I wanted to see what he thought before I called the AC repair guy again. Obviously he isn't going to try and diagnose it out of the kindness of his heart. It does seem a bit odd to me that the car was missing and hesitating after the trouble light showed up. With the new cam sensor it stopped doing that, but the code and light remains. I feel like we are in an awkward spot now. If we just keep driving we never know if there is a new trouble code unless we have Auto Zone check.
I have been driving it since I first posted and maybe 1 out of three times it idles lower. It still worries my wife since we will drive to Houston this Saturday. I posted on the Facebook page of someone that a guy at the Wal-Mart tire place recommended. Here's what he said:
I'd start by checking all the wiring to the cam sensor if you haven't done so already. Make sure nothing was pinched chaffed or broken.(They did)
If all that looks good i would bet the coil packs are going out. When they start dying off they can cause all other sorts of codes to pop up. Maintenance on something like that is not something we normally do but if you need us to we can definitely look at it, hit me up through pm or text if you wanna discuss this in more detail!
Does this sound like a possibility to any of you who are more auto mechanically-inclined?
